I watched the whole of the TV series. Up until
about episode 26 (? whatever episode it was where
the ritual failed and they all had to go back out
on the road) it was pretty decent and I was
enjoying it.
It went DRASTICALLY downhill from there. The
second half of the TV series felt like it had
been tacked on as an afterthought. It had
decidedly less direction than the first half, not
to mention the angst meter was turned up to mind-
choking levels. 9_9
Throughout most of the show (but this especially
plagued the second half), it had been boring to
me that pretty much *ALL* the problems the
characters had stemmed from the fact that each
would repeatedly decide to save everything on
their own without telling anyone what they were
doing or where they were going, and they wouldn't
explain anything to each other after the fact
either. Basically, Fushigi Yuugi is a stellar
example of massive **lack of communication**.
Now is also the time to point out that -- for the
most part -- the characters were completely inept
at completing whatever task they set out to do
alone. . . Whereas if they'd shown some brains
and brought their friends, they could have gone
out, kicked ass, and had time to spare to hit
some bars on the way home. Wherever one of them
did accidentally complete their task correctly,
the result was screwed up by one of their friends
who didn't know they were there to be able to
stay out of the way.
I fell asleep during the OVA. I really don't know
what inspired me to try watching it anyway after
how much I liked the end of the TV series. But I
already had the fansubs sitting there and it
seemed a shame not to watch them at least once.
When I woke up, I went back and watched only the
omake (which *was* hilariously funny!) and dubbed
that off onto a different tape before throwing
out the rest of the OVA, unwatched.
I own two Fushigi Yuugi OVA cels for no other
reason than: "they look neat".
I'm going to add my own "worst anime" post below,
