Well, I am sure that most people here do not have
the luxury of spending a great deal of time in
Japan, nor do they speak fluent Japanese. I
myself am still in the early stages of learning
the language. However, insinuating that ignorance
is a factor in many of these posts is certainly a
factor, but not ultimately damning. As you've
mentioned the Godfather, not everyone can grasp
the cultural nuances of late 1940's Italian mob
life(I doubt many of us were there to witness it
first hand), but that does not mean that their
opinion of the film is any less valid. If it does
not entertain everyone, then that is alright.
However, I do agree that not everyone on this
board is an "otaku" in the truest sense of the
word. Some are simply DBZ fans, or Inuyasha fans.
However, they did at least try to view new anime
at some point. They just did not like it, that's
all. Not everyone on this board needs to be
schooled in Japanese culture in order to form an
opinion of what they like and dislike. If I don't
like an anime because it was poorly scripted or
shoddily drawn, then allow me that. It's not an
attack on your taste, but merely a reflection of
my own.
And people did have the chance to rebut some of
the comments here. Cindy did not like Angel
Links, yet I found it very enjoyable. Do I fault
her for her decision, hell no. I simply gave my
reason for liking the film. I don't think
anyone's feelings were hurt by the thread, and if
they were, please post your thoughts. I certainly
don't think that was the intention of anyone
here. Just my two cents. |
