There is two things you don't understand :
1) It's not a question of like/dislike but to know
   if it's good or not. Again, you can dislike a
   good book/movie/painting/whatever and at the
   same time recognize that it is good.

2) If you ever study, even a little bit,
   literature, music,... you will learn that yes,
   there is plenty of criteria that make a book,
   story, music,... good or bad. It's not totaly
   random as you seems to think.

   And by the way, the same goes for painting,
   photograhy and other kind of art.

Why do you think that some artists are recognized
while other aren't ? Just a question of luck ?!?
