Interesting topic. Especially now that it seems
like so many collectors are selling, selling,
selling.
Out of the 130+ cels I own, about 20 of them hit
the $200 or higher mark.
I don't consider my collection to be high-end,
but I would say that my tastes and preferences
have definitely gone upwards, price-wise, even
if my ability to collect such cels has not
matched my desire. ^_~
I have never made a huge profit on selling an
expensive cel. I usually break even. A couple of
times I took a loss.
I think I get equal enjoyment out of both my
cheapie and uber-expensive cels. If I am not
enjoying the cel, if I am only seeing dollar
signs, I know it's time for that cel to leave my
collection.
It sounds kind of silly, but I am more likely to
spend money very casually on popular series like
CCS because I know I can resell them fairly
easily. However, I have to really sit and think
about the pricey Lupin or Jubei Chan cels I buy
because I know that there are fewer people who
collect from those series.
I know that sounds kind of callous, but it's
still there in the back of my mind...much as I
love my cels and hate to part with them. The
practical part of my nature cannot be completely
ignored. ^_^;
I think I answered more questions than you
actually asked!
