"Why does the topic of "high-end" cel
collecting
concern you to the extent of asking how
people justify or calculate how they can (or do
they think about) being able to get rid of their
cels if they buy an expensive one or not?"
Ok, first off, I was looking for some discussion
here. I think this board is at its best when
people actually discuss a topic :D
As for my interest, I'm breaking into the part of
my collecting where I am seriously considering
plonking down some serious cash once I have it
(ie working full time again, soon I hope!). So,
I am just curious how other people feel about
collecting expensive cels. I have noticed that a
lot of people buy cels, keep them for a few
months, find something better than turn them
around. I am just curious if this applies to
more expensive cels as well since I hardly see
them pop up here.
Secondly, for me there is always the
consideration of whether or not I will recoup any
value of the cels or any collectible after
awhile. Now, I am the first to tell anyone who
is interested in collecting anything that you
should *never* buy with intent to resell at cost
or above cost. However, it will always be in the
back of my mind that there is a possibility that
I may plonk down 1k now and only get $100 back.
This makes me hesistant to get into the really
expensive cels because interests are likely to
change over time.
"Also, Do you collect cels? Are you yourself
interested in buying high-end or expensive
cels for your own personal collection?"
Answered above.
"Would you buy a high-end cel? Would you
think about it as an "investment" to be sold
later if need be for financial purpose or
gain?"
I wouldn't think of it as an investment per se
because that is a good way to get your hopes
dashed in the hobby of collecting. I would more
or less likely wonder whether or not I would be
able to "get out" of an expensive cel if the need
be whether financial pressures, or change in
interest. All of the cels I have bought, I have
bought with the intent of keeping. But over
time, I've gained more interest in some series
and lost interest in others. 9 times out of 10,
I have sold the cels I have lost interest in for
the price I paid or less than the price I paid.
This is fine when it's a $40 cel, I can easily
chalk up a $15 loss as "fun times" I had with
it. However, a $500 loss just might make me cry.
