Many dealers buy cels on the secondary market and
this affects their list price. Say I was a dealer
and bought some cels from FY for say $500.00.
Usual profit margin is 30%? (I'm guessing) so I'd
list it for around $750-700.00.
Even if the market moves on FY cels the base
cost of the cel is $500.00, so I need to recover
at least that much. The business imperative is
that otherwise you have suffered a loss.
For collectors the question is different. If
you've bought something you'd normally try and
recover what you paid, however, there are other
big reasons such as another big expensive cel
which affect your decision. For instance I would
not hesitate to "take a bath" on a cel (which I
have more than once) if I really don;t want it
anymore.
The biggest "bath" I've taken has been about
$200.00 (received less for a cel which I bought).
Its feasible for a collector cause we do not make
a living or earn $ on cels but collect them.
I've found that big prices do not distract
people. if the character/series is popular
enough. Enormous price tags in the thousands do
not matter - also refer Disney cels..... |
