Absolutely not true. There are many wonderful 
fancel artists out there who can create their own 
poses and original compositions involving already 
known characters.

Fairly recently, I finally relented and had an 
original pose fancel made of Setsuna from Psychic 
Force 2012 -- a character of whom I would love to 
have a real cel, but no real cels exist as far as 
I know. The cel was done by Gwen and I couldn't 
be more in love with it! Not because it looks 
just like Setsuna, but for the myriad of little 
differences from Taito's Setsuna that make this 
image completely unique from any other cels, 
assuming there *are* any Setsuna cels to find. If 
she'd done a direct copy of the character onto 
acetate, no matter how good a job, I would have 
been mostly disappointed.
