I think everyone should read that one more time.
No one is demanding everyone to be 100% legal all
the time. No one is calling for a ban on fancels.
As Nabs points out below (very correctly) all
fancels of copyrighted characters are illegal.
The Japanese studios seem not to give a
continental about enforcing that copyright against
fans -- they could but they don't.
So with the legal point pretty much moot, the
only thing left for "fans" to consider is the
effects their actions will have on the people
around them. The effects their actions will have
on the spirit of the area in which they live (be
it an online community, or flesh and blood
neighbors whose hands you can shake).
You can make the place you live a hostile,
unfriendly environment. . . Or you can make it
somewhere everyone feels accepted, where people
want to come to, stay, and have a good time.
Many Sharp Smiles,
