I think showing fansubs of unreleased shows at
cons is good to stir up interest in the shows.
But I also think it's a good idea for the
companies showing the subs to provide Con
attendees with US release dates and information
so we have something to look forward to, instead
of goin online and buying fansubs.

The US anime market is rapidly growing and I
don't think it will take as much time for series
to hit US shores as it has in the past. Nowadays
Japanese Animation studios know that there is a
demand in the US, and they depend on US sales to
decide upon future endeavors. Like Green Bunny's
release of Mezzo Forte for example.... The 2
episode DVD was available in the US only a few
months after it was released in Japan. During an
interview with Umetsu Yasuomi, the shows creator,
he said that there is a possibility the 2 episode
OVA could be turned into a TV series depending
upon how well the DVD sold in the US!

So there are pros and cons to fansubs, as there
are with most everything in this world. True
it's nice to get fansubs and be able to see the
show before it's US release. And yes, maybe
fansubs are translated better than commercial
releases sometimes in some peoples opinions. But
then again, buying fansubs also takes profits
away from commercial US releases, and could end
up being the downfall of this anime boom that we
have been seeing lately. In my opinion, I would
rather buy a high quality US release anime DVD
for a little more money than watch a poor quality
fansub anyday.

Wow! that was a long post! Just some food for
thought! Didn't mean to stir up this thread more
than it already has been! Yipes!
