I picked up the translated inu yasha books and
then I got impatient and bought the japanese
manga and looked up the translations. My
impression? HOLY CRAP! The american translations
are soooo toned down. I mean, ok, so it's
probably for the younger age target group over
here, but that's my example of a really crappy
translation. Inu Yasha sounds much more like a
grumpy teenager in the US and more like a thug in
the original manga.
Not to mention all the horrible hentai
translations I've seen in manga. I have a friend
who works for central park media (and has a huge
personal fansub library) and translates some
hentai comics on the side, and they send her lots
of free comics she's always giving away. The
comics she translates vs the ones she doesn't (or
even the same ones before they hired her as a
translator) have such a HUGE difference in the
quality of the translation... but then, I don't
think most people who buy hentai really care
about the words so long as the pictures are still
there. |
