They refuse to release unedited Kite in the
US. Even on DVD. Now if that isn't just
STUPID...
That's funny, I thought we were talking about
Fushigi Yuugi.
Anyway, the portions of Kite that were edited out
can be taken as child pornography. In the US,
distributing child porn is a FELONY, which means
that you can be sent to jail and registered as a
sex offender for distributing it. Obviously,
Media Blasters didn't want to go to jail, so they
didn't release the kiddie-porn parts.
I got the uncut release in France, which, oddly
enough, was actually much cheaper than the US
DVD. I generally oppose editing, but Media
Blasters were between a rock and a hard place wrt
Kite. (Incidentally, the Kite Director's Cut
also doesn't include the kiddie porn sequence--
which means that the director didn't want the
scene in there in the first place. That's
probably the best version to get.) |
