It's a left over from a time when people were 
posting nearly any single "interesting" auction.
It was filling the board with whole bunches of 
useless messages (people can check auctions sites 
themself), annoying people interested in bidding 
(they wanted to have a little "competitor" as 
possible) and frustrating people who couldn't use 
Yahoo Japan (there was no deputy services yet).

So yes, it's perfectly alright to put links to 
auctions if it's to ask questions, give 
information or point something unusual. But
we don't need people listing every single cels on 
Yahoo... (better post a link about how to search 
on Yahoo :)
