My favorite anime out there is Vampire Princess
Miyu, often referred to in vampire-discussion
circles as "the thinking person's vampire show".
Eatman (especially the first season) is another
thinker of a show, deep with moral dilemmas and
plot twists. And while it doesn't rank up with
Miyu and Eatman as an ultimate favorite, I've
also seen and enjoyed Lain.
But there's only so much of that stuff that I can
watch all at once. I love anime *because* it
allows me to enjoy the medium of animation while
also giving me something I to think about - which
American animation usually doesn't bother to do.
But I only enjoy the thinkers when I also get to
give my brain a rest once in a while. That is why
I also enjoy "fluffy" shows like Card Captor
Sakura, Sailor Moon, and Tenshi ni Narumon. (But
I still counter that these are all higher on the
Thinking Scale than any serial US cartoon which
comes to my mind. ~_~)
Now, however. . . If a Lain fan can answer just
one question for me. . . What the heck was the
whole point with the sister at the end? I think
I "got" everything else - but not her. o_0
