Really?  

I don't know many people who DO like Akira.  No 
one I've ever watched it with really likes it or 
understands the point of it, and people I know 
who already have seen it don't stand up to much 
questioning about WHY they like it.  

"oh... so you liked akira?"
'yeah, it was cool'
"so what did you like about it SPECIFICALLY?"
*argument begins to falter*

I think akira is one of those animes that is good 
to like... because everyone else likes it, and 
you don't want to disagree, do you?
