Well, my name is Karen (big surprise there) and I'm a 20 year old computer science major, just finishing my 3rd year at Michigan Technological University, and president of this college's anime club. I use my real name here because I'm tired of keeping all my nicknames straight, although I'm often called the following nicknames in real life: java goddess ^_^; (long story), computer karen, ck, cs, k, lord of nightmares(longer story), chaos incarnate (see previous), bringer of the apocolypse (even longer story involving a small AI I wrote when bored), Xellas, anime-karen, anime girl, kawaii-chan(i wish this didn't stick). I've also been called crazy, insane, among other things. I really got into anime when I was in 10th grade or so, and started out on Sailormoon fansubs, and ranma, followed soon after by Tenchi Muyu, then Slayers(My all time fav ^_-) I collect mostly Slayers cels, mostly to keep down spending. I started following this group last August or so, but didn't post until November. I bought my first cel Nov 3, 1999, on my 20th b-day ;) The only reason I waited so long is that I wanted my 1st cel to be of Xelloss (mazoku rule). I used to collect *any* type of anime merchandise, but I now pretty much only collect cels, mostly because they are much nicer than items like Sailor Moon spatulas, and take up much less room to store than most items. I've managed over the years to incorporate anime into my life in so many ways. I managed to write a term paper in my classic lit class relating gulliver's travels to laputa: an island in the sky. Xelloss was the model I chose for my 3-d graphical programming class. (Xelloss can also be found as easter eggs in most of my projects ^_^;)I also made various anime items in my sculpting class. Unfortunately, my school has only 8000 students, and is surrounded by nothing but woods and water, so there isn't any cool anime shops or anything. Thank goodness for the internet, eh? |
