I can't at all understand your unwillingness to
post a link to the auction. There is probably
nobody in a better position to help you than RX,
since he goes to Mandarake often and knows the
people there and the policies. Yet for some
reason you ignored his and other messages
offering help and only replied to the one nasty
one. If it were me, that's the obnoxious one is
I would have ignored.
Perhaps you're embarrassed at having bid so
much, but I can assure you every cel collector
who reads this forum has made a bad purchase at
some point. It's part of the hobby. People are
offering their help if you want it, but it's
hard to be specific without seeing the actual
auction. Also, even though you say you wouldn't
sell the copies, some people might be nervous
that there is ulterior moticvation behind not
posting a link to the auction.
You could also do a big service to the cel
community by posting the auction or at least the
show title because then other fans of the show
who read here won't go through this same
experience with Mandarake in the future. The
nice thing about having a community to ask for
help, is that sometimes you get the chance to
help out as well.
The price and timing though, I can't help but
wonder if it was 5cm of Narotu sketches. I seem
to remember that auction going for about that
much. If it was, I know of several people who
were bidding on that auction, so really you
aren't alone in having believed them to be
authentic!
Best of luck in resolving this. Without seeing
the auction it is hard to know if you were
misinformed or made a mistake. Your best bet is
probably to contact Mandarake directly and *very
nicely* explain the situation (people don't
respond well to anger). Instead of demanding a
refund, ask them for suggestions on what can be
done to remedy this situation. If they offer a
refund, great, but at least by asking them for
advice you give them the chance to perhaps
better the situation in a way you might not have
thought of. Better than nothing anyway...
Hope it works out,
