I'm not anti-American -- American's an country of
inventors (kidney dialysis machine, optic fibre,
hula hoop, push through tabs on soda cans, Mr.
Potato Head, etc. . .) -- but sheesh you really
don't give the rest of the world enough credit.
I'm not sure you can say anyone person or country
invented the computer -- the history's too
complicated; however the first programmable
computer was created by Konrad Zuse (German) in
1936.
The samething could be said about the automobile -
- although Karl Benz (German) is credited by many
for many the first practical car with the
internal combustion engine back in 1885. Granted
it had three wheel, but it's still an
automobile.

And where did you get the idea that Penicilin was
discovered by an American? Sir Alexander Flemming
was a British citizen -- died in London. The
title should have given that away.
Other things not invented by Americans:
1. The Jet Engine -- Sir Frank Whittle (British)
and Doctor Hans Joachim Pabst von Ohain (German)
2. The Helicopter -- Igor Sikorsky (Russian)
3. The lightbulb. Henry Woodward and Matthew
Evans invented it in 1875 in Toronto. They didn't
have the money so they sold the patent to Edison.
Read about it here:

ht.htm#woodward
4. Insulin -- Banting and Best -- Canadians.
5. Electric Batteries -- Count Alessandro Volta
(Italian)
So to summarize -- it's just Americans which
invent things. The rest of the world likes to
tinker as well. :) |
