I think the Japanese love the Germans(or at least 
in their animes). Leji Matsumoto has Captain 
Harlock who's an iron cross pilot, Ohata has MD 
Giest who by his own name is german, and then 
there's the german roach in Twilight of the 
Cockroaches. Although sometimes these characters 
are mean or violent they are portrayed as strong, 
invulnerable, and powerful.

There’s also Asuka in Eva not surprisingly the 
only non-Japanese Eva pilot is a German.  

I think they still have a respect for their axis 
allies.
