I don’t post here much. The last time I left a
message here was three years ago and that was my
only message, but here is my 2 cents on the
subject, although you might only want to read the
end.

I don’t think Japan has a very healthy view of
gays in their animes. Example A: Venus Wars the
only gay character in that was a coward, and made
tons of sexual advances on Hiro that could have
been classified as sexual harassment.

I think there is more pedophilia in anime than
homosexuality. Pedophilia seems to be in almost
all of them it’s in dragon ball (bulma offers
master roshi a feel on her ass for a dragon
ball), Black Jack (Black Jack hangs around a
little girl who’s really an adult but has the
body of a little girl), the Deprive section of
Robot Carnival (the robot guy instead of going
after a damsel in distress, is going to save his
match, a little girl), Sailor Moon ( Usagi is
jealous of chibi moon who has a weird attraction
to her own father), Captain Harlock ( In the TV
series Maya isn’t a woman but a little girl, and
in the movie Arcadia of my youth all of those
alien guys were planning on sleeping with Zol’s
younger sister ) and that’s just to name a few.
When dealing with sex most animes seem to be
really strange.

Another theme in anime is its anti view of the
west. Demonstrated in Black Jack(gee, who are the
federal unites), the 2nd patlabor movie ( the
heroes fear a modern day invasion from the west),
Super Atragon (the US throw a surprise attack on
a surrendering Japanese sub), and even robotech
(gee, I wonder who the big hairy zentradi are
supposed to be).

On a lighter note if you want to explore how
anime feels about the treatment of the elderly,
get Roujin Z.
