Re: Can we please get off this homophobic rant and get back to the reason I posted this message? (Wed Jun 5 20:19:27 2002 )

I agree. ^_^ Homosexuality and one's feelings
toward it can be debated, but it's not right to
ruin your post with it. I apologize for what
happened. (And if this post

Religion: There aren't a whole lot of animes
that run in this direction of religion, but one
I've seen that deals with Christian myth and
Bible lore is Ninja Resurrection. However,
before you even touch that, I forewarn you that
the anime itself contains enormous amounts of
violent content (the genocide of the Christians)
as well as some disturbing anti-religiou themes
and sexual and rape scenes.

Another one you may wanna take a look at is Neon
Genesis Evangelion. One of the most famous
animes, it focuses on a global war against God.
However, that anime tends to focus more on the
teenage lead character, Shinji Hikaru, and his
emotional struggle through the battles, his
relationship with his father, and other...stuff.
^_^

Homosexuality: There's a ton of animes you can
pick from, but on a note, a series known as
Fushigi Yuugi contains a character who is a
crossdresser, and it features reactions of other
characters when they reveal his secret to their
acceptance and good friendship with him. Oh, and
Fushigi Yuugi also implements alot of old
religious mythology and ancient Chinese tradition
too. (The gods featured in the story--Suzaku,
Seiryuu, Byakko, Genbu--were actual deities that
were worshipped in ancient China.)

Others:

-I haven't seen many animes dealing with this
either, and I'm probably _really_ stretching with
this one, but the movie Vampire Hunter D:
Bloodlust contains a romance between a vampire
and a human that I personally saw as an allegory
for inter-racial marriages and the intolerance of
society around them. Stuff like that. ^_^

-Hmmm...Gundam Wing is probably one the most
politically-charged animes I've seen in quite a
while, and it manages to pull it off in a
realistic and complex manner, so I would
recommend that if you go anywhere near that
territory of world politics and related.

-Rurouni Kenshin is an anime with alot of a
historical fact and tradition in it, so that's a
must for any fan.

Ergle...I haven't been able to view much anime
lately, so I apologize for my lack of, well,
help. ^_^ I do hope this helps you, though, and
I hope your class goes well. If I lived anywhere
near Las Vegas, you can bet I'd attend it. Good
luck!
