It's obvious this was brought up by the recent
selling of the X Test cels at Chaos...So...Lemme
explain a few things about X cels, and the test
cels.
X cels have always sold at a high cost. I have
seen some cels go for next to nothing, when a
specific shot, or cel with matching background
will fetch anywhere from $500 to around $1000.
Anything above that I fear for actual X/1999
movie production work is getting waaaay too
expensive for the series...Bo matter what the
shot.
Now...X2...the mvid...Those are another story.
Actual production cels from this can range
anywhere from $300...To over $5000!!! That's the
only time you will ever see a cel from this
series peak over $1500...s when it's from the X2
mvid...and they usually have their matching
backgrounds.
Well..That's not entirely true...The only other
type of X cel I can see reaching that selling
point/value...Would be...gee...X Hanken cels.
Which brings me to the test cels...
Most of the test cels Nick has gotten in are in
fact actual MadHouse test cels. Most people even
have original drawings which have the madhouse
seal on them, etc. Half of the test cels Nick
has gotten so far were test cels, used from KEY
sequences in the Mvid. Those KEY sequences were
drawn...in GREAT Detail...By Nobuteru Yuuki...So,
the detail in each cel is of the highest quality
in that specific shot. Now, the colors may be
off from the actual production cel, or some key
areas may not be painted in, but...If the shot is
RARE enough, or sought after enough...It should
fetch an admirable price...Compared to what the
original would cost someone.
For example...The 2 TEST cels I own in my
gallery...The Purple-eyed Hinoto, and Kamui
w/Kotori...If those were actual production
cels...The Hinoto would easily fetch around
$3000, and the Kamui would easily fetch around
$2000. Would I rather pay around $200-
$500...HELL YES.
Now...The other half of TEST cels that Nick has
gotten...Were *ACTUAL* Hanken test cels.
Remember what I said about X Hanken cels being
worth? Well...There you go. I believe all those
cels are up for a reasonable price.
And...Hey...Guess what? If they don't sell for
awhile...I bet you can offer him something less,
and he'd be able to work it out with ya ;P~.
Thos TEST hanken cels are dead on as far as
coloring go, but the detail in them compared to
the originals is a bit off. It's not lacking in
detail, but the details are positioned diffent.
And if some areas aren't painted in...The lines
are scratchier than others...Then this degrades
the value as well.
As far as telling if these cels are actual
MadHouse test cels or not...You've got my seal of
approval, and my sources seal of apporval ;P!
It's true anyone can take a piece of plastic and
turn them into cels, but these are legit. They
come with production material, and...Man...If
someone went that far to put that much detail
into something and turn around and sell it for a
small price...I'm willing ot pay for it ^.^!
Hope this helps! If you have any other
questions...Feel free to ask!
