See, I had always assumed that Super Deformed included instances
when only a character's face is deformed (extremely happy,
extremely angry, freaked out, etc.), but now I'm pretty sure
that SD refers only to when the WHOLE BODY of a character is in
that cute, pudgy size. (e.g. SD Gundam, SD Mini-Goddess, Dragon
Half, and most of Villgust) But no one has ever been able to tell
me exactly what the term (if there is one) for when only the
character's face/eyes/mouth is deformed, so I just call it
squishy. (The characters in Tenchi OAV go squishy a lot, but
I've never seen them SD, for instance.) (My angry cel wasn't a
good example, sorry)
Given the price differential I've seen on squishy vs. normal
cels, my guess is that the Japanese don't necessarily value
that more. Anyway -
To illustrate, I had to borrow Taro's cels because I don't
really have good examples (yet). The left is true SD, the right
is one of the more extreme examples of squishiness...
