I judge a cel completely by how I feel, entirely arbitrarly . ^_^ When I shop for cels, that's the most important part and the letters A, B, and C don't even pop into my head. I don't have any set in stone definitions of what makes me like a certain cel, it's just something I know when I see. However, when I say "nice" shot in a wish list, I generally mean it's a high grade B or it comes with the _correct_ background, or has various other features that make it "nice." That's using the standard since I assume most people know it. As for Grade A shots, I don't have a single one! I'm impressed that you have a half dozen. This is partially because I like dark anime, so I'm not as into having the character smiling. I often prefer a character looking slightly down and dejected. I've seen some open mouth cels that I thought looked a lot better than their closed mouth counterparts. Plus, there are just some characters who I feel look better at maybe a 3/4 shot than a head on. Furthermore, sometimes I would like to get more of the outfit in there. I don't particularly like the system, but it's so ingrained I guess I have to know it. It does help explain a lot of the pricing! As for fair, I don't feel any system could be perfect, so if this one is the standard, than so be it. How could we define "fair?" However, among friends I'm trying to use a system of my own that I feel is a little bit more forgiving, at least psychologically. As for being a serious collector, wouldn't that just be anyone who doesn't take the hobby lightly? After all, if we start defining serious collectors based on a pricing system, wouldn't it just be the people who collect pricier cels who would be serious? I think someone can be a serious collector if they do a really good job of collecting cheaper series and cels as well. They're just seriously collecting something slightly different. Keys |
