"The Secrets of Cel Collecting": The Three Grades (Mon May 15 18:41:21 2000
) oion drakaina.oion@nospam.net |
Someone brought this up on a different thread, so now I'm curious; how many of you pay attention to what "level" or "grade" a cel is when you buy? I usually take that as meaning just how serious of a 'collector' someone is, but all things are subjective, don't byte me just yet. ^_- A: portrait shot, shoulders up, facing camera, eyes open, mouth closed, centered, generally no hands (etc.). "Closeup" I agree that sometimes the closeup portrait shot is overrated. But then, these tend to be among the best quality cels, too. What I'm curous about, in relation to B grade cels, is where a full body shot would be (nothing is cut off, character facing forward in a normal posture). B: anything not A (often by only one or two factors); profiles; off-centered; smaller image; mouth open; etc. C: off-center, small image, eyes closed, etc. So do people really pay attention to this? More importantly - do you think these standards are fair/useful/etc.? I know the Japanese collectors do given the pricing differential. Hmm, I think I only have half a dozen grade A cels... |
