I think that japanese are realy too "obsessed" with close-up. Sure, I like close-up but I also like to have middle or full-shot of the character. Some are as good as close-up especialy if they are over-sized. What realy make a good cel is not just a set of techical criteria but the whole composition of the picture. Also not everybody may agree on the same criteria : For example, in photography, a portrait should be slightly off-center and the person need to have her lips slightly apart. Having the mouth full close is "as bad" as having it full open. Concerning cels, I agree myself with that : I prefer if the character's lips are slight parted. In the end, what realy count is your personal taste ! Buy cels that you enjoy yourself... Cheers, Yann Stettler |
