Re: The other side... (Thu Jun 27 23:28:43 2002 )

Actually, if a person has the means to pay for
every cel of a particular character and has the
tremendous luck of getting every cel of that
character, then that's their perogative.

In terms of your friend's situation, there was
absolutely no reason for the person to contact
your friend and tell them not to bid on an
auction. They have no right to do that. Nor do
they have the right to tell your friend how
aweful it was that your friend won.

In my situation, I've never told anyone not to
bid on an auction. At the height of our LU
bidding frenzy I know I could COUNT on being bid
against by Lady Zatara and another girl (sorry I
forget her name). You pretty much could
guarantee that one of us would be the winner of
an auction. And in all that time I never
received any derogatory emails (nor sent any) to
them. In fact, I remember one email from Lady Z
congratulating me on a good bidding war for an
auction!

I'm talking about getting an email from a perfect
stranger who INSISTED that I should NOT bid on
the same auction as she was because I had TOO
MANY Last Unicorn cels (as if there was such a
thing!). Even after I told her that I only bid
on auctions if I don't have a cel from that
scene/sequence I was email flamed. I'm not so
sure that there is 'another side' to this
particular situation beyond the fact that she
wanted something she probably couldn't afford to
have. You have to admit when your max bid is
something around $100 on a book Last Unicorn cel
(one where there was a foreground and
background), the odds of her winning were slim!
