Young may be able to make the differance between the hanken and it's copy but personaly, based on some of the copies I saw, I don't think that I would be able to tell... at least not without being able to compare the copy to the real hanken. And certainly not without seeing them in real : Scans are simply not enough. If there is a mistake in the copy, that's another matter but if there isn't... I heard criteria like comparing the width of black lines between the cel and a picture in an art-book. Assuming that they are at the same size (which often won't be the case), reproduction and printing process are deforming slightly the final result so some differance could be normal. I also heard things like checking if it's hand-inked or not. But who is to say that no hanken are hand-inked or that a company making copies can't xerox the cels ? In the end, it's more a question of asking yourself "is it possible that this person has a hanken ?", "is the deal too good to be true ?". It's not probable at all that someone has an hanken without knowing it's value. So if it's too cheap, it's probably a copy... Knowing what copies are around and the whereabout of original is obviously of big help. For example, AIC printed a catalog of the hanken they sold during the GoFa exhibit. All those hanken are coming with a certificate from AIC. So if you see one of them but without the certificate, it's a copy... But that's a special case and many time, there isn't such information...
