I had my prejudice about them too when I first saw
it, but then I grew to love the series as well as
the character redesigns.  As I look back on the
original series, I must say that Sonoda's 'big
hair' girls are somewhat laughable - don't get me
wrong, I really do like the original OAV's and for
their time, they were something that I held onto
in the 'non-anime-liking' years of my life.  It's
just that 2040 (and hopefully 2041 when it comes
out) the story and the characters are just great
to me.  JMHO
