You'll have to forgive me, as I was in a pretty
sour mood last night.
Richard M. Stallman is the father and champion of
the Free Software Movement and the Free Software
Foundation. He's a bit "out there", and there's
a lot of debate in the software community about
his philosophy, but he basically preaches that
since bits are free and the manufacturing cost of
software is almost zero, all software should be
free, or cost at most what the media costs.
I don't happen to agree with Richard about this
(since I make my living in software)!
However, I actually do agree with it regarding
cel images. I'm one of those people who is
actually honored if someone rips off images of my
cels. If they claim that they own my cel, I take
it as flattery.
Since I own the physical image, I take the
attitude that they are not really stealing
anything from me. And imitation is the sincerest
form of flattery.
I've stayed out of this whole debate in the past,
but as I was feeling sour last night, and I was
amazed at the sheer volume of reaction to the
original poster, I allowed to make that cryptic
rejoinder.
