It has always been my understanding that your 
original material (scans/pics and info) posted 
on your website has an automatic copyright, and 
it does not even need the little copyright 
symbol - though most people add it to remind 
others of that fact.  

The internet is not public, lawless domain.  It 
just so happens that many people break the law 
and get away with it online.  That doesn't mean 
that the laws are not there, though.  People are 
NOT supposed to use other's material and post it 
on their website without permission.

I could be mistaken, but this has been my 
understanding for the past several years.  :)
