I think the show's cute. Only the 1st 3 shows or
so were actually paper cutouts, since then it's
all computer work. I really don't lump it in with
"cartoon animation" in my mind, per se, I think
it's an odd curiosity, sort of like claymation or
stop-motion.
I wish I could say I liked a lot of American
animation, but much of it is insanely cheesy to
me, and low on imagination. I can't stand Disney,
it's pretty much all mass-market lowest common
denominator for the sake of merchandising sort of
stuff, Bakshi's a hack pervert, Bluth makes my
skin crawl the most with his "Disney Wanna-be"
sappy stuff (yes, I know he used to work for Diz),
and things from 70's-80's Filmation and H-B are
crud. (I do like some 60's H-B)I do have a lot of
respect for the modern H-B though- they have
really done their damndest to push the envelope
with much of the Cartoon Network "Cartoon Cartoon"
stuff, that's made all the better with very slick
writing.
Bruce Timm and Paul Dini are gods in my book. They
need to be helming a lot more stuff, I have never
been dissatisfied with their work. I like John K,
but man, he's gotten so little done in the last 10
years...
