While I don't question the historical signifigance
of cels from a movie like Snow White (you're also
all forgetting that most old Disney cels were
destroyed) - American animation is just more than
I'm willing to pay. . . Where something does seem
worth it's price (like a cel of Honest John from
Pinocchio that I saw at Van Eaton), it's more
than I *can* pay.
I but have to say, I don't find myself envying
those Courvoisier setups. They're NOT cels
anymore! Courvoisier CUT OUT the images along the
very edge of the image and stuck it to a non-
production background. Often, they didn't even
keep the images from matching layers of a sequence
together, instead trying to come up with something
more "aesthically pleasing" than what you actually
saw and enjoyed in the movie! >_< All you have
is a bit of paint glued to paper. And for anyone
who's never seen one up close (I have) the "cel"
is turned into something that resembles a
Colorform. >_< It makes me cringe the way they
destroyed all those beautiful cels in the name of
making their own paste and patch "art".
Trimmed cels I can understand, since many of the
cels from these old shows were snatched off piles
of cels that were being destroyed (damaged edges
were often trimmed off). . . But Courvoisier?
They should have been shot.
Always just my two cents. . .
