It was useful to YOU the seller (although it would 
have been returned to you anyway, tracking or 
not---it gave you a small measure of peace of 
mind).

Any time I've had to use it, though, it rarely 
gives any info until it actually arrives (unlike, 
say, EMS, which you can track every step of the 
way or UPS, which gives station-by-station 
updates).  I think on just ONE occassion it listed 
some info while in transit.
