good effort at translating French, Italian, 
Spanish, Italian, Russian, Latin, and Old and 
Middle English, and can make out simple things in 
my mangas like "Zettai daijoubu da yo!" 

But this was in some kind of cursive script, and 
in any case (as Drac and evilminion note) the 
kanjis are not easy to locate, unless you know 
the pronunciation already (my dictionary is 
Romanji only).  

Sorry if people thought my handle was 
pretentious.  I've been 50something-sensei, or 
sensei for short, for about 3 years now, and up 
to this point I haven't gotten that reaction.  
shrugs.  I certainly didn't mean to be 
pulling rank.  Gomenesai if I gave offense.

Asking people who know more than you always makes 
you dependent on the courtesy of strangers.  I 
guess it's more pretentious not to ask the 
question and pretend you already know.  (Or not 
to give the answer and pretend you and everyone 
else already knows.)
