What pushed the limit, eh?
When I first started collecting I had a cap of
$100 too. I dabbled in cel market looking for
rather inexpensive ($15-30) cels from shows I had
seen.
However, as I watched new anime and re-watched
others, there were certain scenes that stood out
to me. The first cel I went over my limit for was
from a scene that was special to me. Because of
this, I could justify the extra money, and I do
not regret buying it at all. (See picture below
if it shows up!)
As I further matured as a collector I think I
started to look for different things in cels--
opening cels, cels from rare scenes, bank cels,
etc. These types cost more money, so naturally if
I wanted to add them to my collection I had to be
willing to spend more and push the limit for ones
I really liked. Knowing the market for the shows
you collect from really helps too, because you
will have others to compare.
But, as a number of other collectors have said,
it's up to your personal taste. Just don't spend
more than you can afford, and be prepared to sell
other cels in your collection to make up the
difference if you do.
Hope this helps you decide what to do!
