This is actually a pretty interesting discussion,
because of the diversity of strong opinions that
it produces.

I suspect that, like myself, you're a person of
some life experience and maturity that you can
speak from. Yet, I and you seem to be on
opposite ends of the spectrum here.

I'd never dream of watermarkimg my cels, or
taking down a gallery, or password-protecting it,
because I'd honestly be flattered if someone
throught enough of my taste and selection in cels
to want to claim one of mine for their own; and
I'd be even more honored if they went to the
trouble of copying it as a fancel and trying to
sell it.

But your point of view has a certain compelling
logic to it as well. I don't think I would care
to argue with you about it, because I think that
it might be a hard argument for me to win....

I wonder whether, at it's root, it has to do with
how one reacts to total losers.

People who might flatter me by stealing my images
or making fancels of them are still total
losers. But it's fun for me to look down on
them, and even in their pathetic loser-hood,
there's an element of flattery there which I find
affirming.

But that ("that" being my point of view) might
perhaps be a bit irresponsible, in the sense that
I am not holding anyone else to any standard of
behavior; I'm saying that if someone else's
behavior in this space amuses me and makes me
feel flattered, it's OK.

That's because I treat this as a hobby, where I
do not apply the same standards of behavior to
other people that I would apply in (for example)
education or health care.

But maybe you're right. Perhaps accepting a
lower standard of behavior from other people in a
hobby, than I would accept in "real life", is a
mistake.

Food for my thought.....
