When comparing cels to living beings, I don't give a damn... (Sun Apr 11 13:56:20 2004 )

Let's say: I appreciate them. But love... umm, no
offense, but sometimes I see people here who give
those sheets of plastic way too much of a soul.
As an owner of pets, currently cats, I see an
important difference between a living being and a
piece of studio garbage. I *love* my cats,
they're warm, they move, the give and take
affection, they drool me to sleep. I get a huge
smile on my face when I see them, and I'm
devastated about any of them dying.

With cels however, I treat them like anything
inanimate that I own. I'm happy when I receive
one, I may even frame it, and I boast about it on
my site. And there are those I don't want to part
with. But only because they look pretty or
because they were a gift or stuff, you know. It's
hard to put into words, let's say, I "love" my
cels the way a kid loves their new toy. I may
mope when I don't get a cel that I really want,
but life goes on, no matter what happens to my
cels. While life does not simply go on when one
of my cats dies.

It's really important to me not to treat devices
like living beings, just as important as it is to
me not to treat living beings like devices.

Also, somehow, when I get an offer on a cel, it
starts to lose its personal value and I no longer
appreciate it as much as I did before the offer.
Why else would I have sold my Nuriko/Miaka cel
for only $180 after I got an (unpaid) offer of
$300 for it? That offer simply sucked out all the
value of the cel, and I felt like letting it go,
even for much less.

I would trade my cels anytime for something more
important.

So yeah, I like my cels, but I don't love them.
Maybe it's not quite clear what I wrote, as it's
somehow hard to put into words. I found it hard,
it's hard to find, oh well, whatever, nevermind...

^^;
Anna
