We sometimes put a bit of a double standard out when it comes to cel collecting and dealing. If you're a collector, you're not supposed to be a dealer, because it's a hobby, not a business...etc. I am cheap. I admit it, I'm strapped for cash a lot of the time. When I sell a cel, I like to make money. All of us would. I have sold one cel so far- I think I made $5. I was thrilled. I don't like to feel I've "wasted" money on a cel that I just didn't like when I saw it in person. People should be able to make a profit. I think that collectors get angry though, when that profit margin gets too big, when someone is asking an unreasonable price for something they really want. I saw a cel I wanted very badly at akon this summer. I still go look at the site where it's for sale... I have made offers I am pretty dang sure are more than fair because I have been looking for and buying cels of this character for a long time. But they won't sell it for less, and so it's been sitting on the site for a year... The market is not always so just however. The dealers I choose to deal with are the ones that try to be fair. It's usually not too hard to determine the value of something- shop around. You know if someone is trying to rip you off, so don't support them- you'll just lose money. But one little corallary- maybe a high price is a result of having paid too much for a cel. So don't automatically assume someone is greedy, but check their track record... |
