Ah, I've been meaning to post something about this
after reading about it on the Celmail mailing
list! I think we cel collectors have been
proliferating the wrong terminology for some time
now, unfortunately. I think I deleted that e-
mail, but here is what I remember:
CGI - As Bill stated means Computer Generated
Imaging as in movies like Toy Story, Toy Story 2,
Jimmy Neutron, etc.. The term is also used when
computers are used to generate a crowd of people
or animals in a 2D animated movie or show some 3D
object (like the car in Oliver and Company).
DP - This is probably the more PROPER term that we
should use when asking about 2D animation of late.
DP stands for Digital Painting. Drawings are
still produced for the animation, but all the
coloring is done by computer.
So remember, say DP instead of CG(I)!
