>If you need something to ponder, how about
why Japanese camera manufacturers use
English text on their cameras... that's
something I've always wondered, anyway :)
Easy. Japan loves excuses to use foreign
languages. Try going to Japan and find a t-shirt
with actual Japanese on it, instead of English
(or even french). It's a lot harder than you'd
think.
Anyway, my opinion on the CG issue:
I agree, the actual shows are more important to
me than the cels. I got into cels as a byproduct
of being so obsessed with a particular show that
I was buying everything from it I could get my
hands on. I became rather enamoured with the cels
from this show I bought, and decided to branch
out into the other series I liked.
I actually collected 'cartoon art' long before I
was even watching anime, but these were from
American comic book writers, not cels. I actually
like the drawings better than cels, and if there
was some way that I could get ahold of orignal
pages from the production of manga, I would be
far more interested in collecting that then the
cels. So while I like cels a whole lot, I am
actually really content with collecting the
sketches used for CG production. There is
something about the way they mark the shadings
with the different colored pencils that I find
really asethetically appealing. |
