Not an excuse, and here's why. (Fri Oct 31 19:04:53 2003 )

I'm not saying that a community who knows an
unscrupulous or undeserving individual should
have to be polite to that person each time.
Obviously, there is degree of tolerance every
person has that simply breaks after awhile.
Given what I've seen in the past, I'd say Shura's
crossed the line a few times, and I understand
that.

HOWEVER, this is NOT a personal community board
whose main purpose is a place where people get
together, joke around, and generally have fun.
It can be that, yes, and I am glad that it is,
but it's not the main focus. If you want just
that, perhaps a visit to an Ezboard or a personal
site is in order. I wouldn't say it's all right
there much either, but there's a big difference
in a private forum and a board of this manner:
Namely, that it's involved in marketing.

This is a BUSINESS board. Yes, there are people
here who have histories with one another and who
are friends, but it's primary purpose is for
people to sell items, purchase them, pass along
transactions, and, also, to a degree, attract
customers or help them better understand the way
Yann's shop works.

As a business forum, the decorum demanded of its
members increases a level or so. I'm not taking
Shura's side in this - I do feel that in the past
she has shown qualities in the past that I don't
paticularly care for myself - however, I will not
attack her on a personal basis because I realize
that this forum is not a place for personal
squabbles. In general, I would recommend that if
you have a problem with someone to take it
offline.

This is a place where I browse the market and get
information. This is a place where people might
come just to get an idea of the quality of Yann's
site by reading what goes on here. Whether or
not he himself partakes in the events that take
place is null - there are plenty of people who
will judge another by what they tolerate and
allow on their boards.

And knowing that, what if what they saw in the
replies to Shura's message offended them in such
a manner that they decided not to post here any
longer? Yann's just lost a customer who may have
provided him a source of income. Likewise, I
recognize that Shura's actions have done no
better, and I hold her responsible for them, but
simply because one individual performs
reprehensible actions does not mean that everyone
should follow suit. Two wrongs do not make a
right, or so the old cliche goes.

And think about your own sales/buys on this
board. This kind of stuff reads badly for a
person's character. What if a new poster who was
perhaps interested in buying a cel that you
needed money from decides that from watching your
actions, they don't think you're worth dealing
with now/are afraid of speaking to you? What if
you want to make an offer on their gallery, and
they refuse that offer based on what they saw
here?

I'm not saying I condone this either, but Lizzard
has pulled up a very important point - personal
judgement is vital in this industry. It decides
everything. The choices you make, the things you
say, will all reflect on your person, no matter
whether its in retaliation or outright
instigation.

Quite frankly, this post should never have become
a personal attack. It's in a business forum and
demands business decorum. I am sorry that there
are some serious tensions between people on this
forum, and I understand that Shura may have
insulted you in the past, but if nothing else, be
the bigger person. Fight that urge to write a
nasty or slighting reply. It will all around
keep a better general feeling and reputation on
the forum and without even saying anything, will
say something powerful about the integrity of
your character.

And if nothing else, consider how much bandwidth
this endless banter tends to create. Give poor
Yann a break. He puts so much work into this
place...he deserves better.

I'm not taking sides. I don't know anyone here
well enough to take or favor anyone's side. All
I'm saying is that we have to keep in mind the
measure of our words and effect that they can
have.
