I look at it this way: Dealers are people who
provide a service and should be compensated as
such. A real dealer, a reputable honest dealer,
makes their money by capitalizing on their
connections the rest of us don't have. This is
their business, they have a skillset and have
invested time that as collectors (with jobs and
expertise of our own) cannot invest and
therefore we PAY for their service, time and
connections.
Reselling from YJ is not a service.
Instead of providing expertise, they are simply
swooping in as middle men and hoping to reap
some benefit from it. It's not really any
different than you or I buying several cels off
YJ then turning around and selling them on eBay.
Is this illegal? No. Is it moral? Debatable. My
view on it is there is definitely money to be
made in the cel business so why not make it by
becoming an expert in the field and therefore
providing a service to collectors? I know
personally I'd never be comfy in a profession
that acts simply as a middle man who marks up
prices (where's the pride in that?), but would
only feel comfortable in being compensated
because I provided a service others could not.
Again, it comes down to personal opinion and
ethics, but my bottom line view is if you want
to make money selling anime cels, why not
actually be an ASSET to the hobby? You can be a
good guy and still make money.
