When is it just unfair? (Mon Nov 24 02:59:53 2003 )

I'm not interested in starting a flame-war, but I
just have to bring up something that is really
beginning to irk me and I was wondering if anyone
else felt the same way or had any thoughts on
this. I'll try to do this without naming a
specific show/series and Dealer.

Basically, there is a certain series that I have
been collecting from for a number of years now-
and as time has gone on it has grown in
popularity considerably. I've noticed that for
the past several months, very nice, rare and high-
quality cels from this series has been selling on
Y!JP and then about a week later, showing up on
one particular Dealer's site, marked up.

I know we've seen this whole re-selling debate a
million times and at first I was
like, "Whatever". It's a business, and it's
something seen very often in cel collecting and
dealing. However, with each month I am
constantly finding wonderful cels from this
series, being outbid at the last minute, and then
finding the same exact cel from the auction
uploaded to this particular Dealer's site. I've
begun saving auctions I'm bidding on in
my "favorites" menu to see how it ended, and 4
out of 5 times, the winning bidder has been this
particular Dealer. And then sure enough, they'll
update their site and that cel is up for sale,
marked up quite a deal.

Does anyone else see anything wrong with this?
Like I said, I completley understand the whole
business aspect of it and "well, if you want it
so damn bad, then the mark-up price will be worth
it, right?"--- but is there a point where it's
not longer a way of dealing it as a business
strategy, but as a dirty, cheap one? What do you
all think?
