I recently sold off a cel of mine to a person,
only to receive a letter back from them telling
me the cel was damaged. The person was obviously
upset, and I don't blame them, but knowing that
it wasn't shipping damage upset me too - because
I hadn't realized there had been damage there!
The cel had been in perfect condition when I put
it up for sale...and it was for the rest of the
week before I got it off. (Snow and car problems
delayed it's mailing.)
I took the UTMOST care taking care of that
package...I folded the top letter over just above
the cel to make sure the tape didn't catch the
background...I did my damndest to align it
perfectly to make sure the glue in general didn't
affect the image at all.
Had I EVER, at any moment, imagined that there
had bent it somewhere (God, I don't even know
when, where, or how I bent it!), I would've
immediately contacted the individual and paid
them back in full. I would never have sent them
a damaged cel.
So upon receiving the email from this person...I
feel horrible. I feel worse than bad. This must
have been a Christmas present - and because I was
negligent somewhere along the way, I've ruined it!
So I promised to immediately refund him...but I
also am going for an ebay auction of a Chichiri
cel because I want to make sure that the
recipient gets something anyway. I feel guilty
that the Chichiri fan won't get anything...
...But now I wonder if it's the right thing to
do. Am I only pouring salt into wounds by my
efforts to help amend my error? I realize that I
cannot replace what I have unintentinally ruined,
but I want to make sure this person gets
something! Money is just money...it isn't
meaningful...
I just...I don't know what to do...
