Actually I think about what you are thinking now,
BEFORE I even buy cels, whether buying it is
harmful to those dependant on myself. I have come
to accept I can enjoy this hobby within financial
restrictions. By restrictions I mean quality v
quantity, one cel worth $700, purchased once a
year. So as you can imagine my collection is VERY
small, but IMO I have some good quality high end cels.
If in the untimely event I am gone, I would've
already preinstructed and placed in writing in the
will or living trust that x person(s) will
inherent the collection. I would inform them which
are in demand over the years and where to obtain
objective pricing information. Furthermore, I
would suggest to them keep those you like and sell
the rest little by little. Naturally this means
they have to sort though everything, which won't
be much and the same applies to my eartly
possessions. I don't like collecting useless
stuff, I like to keep a minimual amount of
materialistic luxery/possessions and thus, they
wouldn't have to resell much. I don't want the
things I own to end up owning me. A lifestyle, car
or house payments, I believe will all be within my
means or paid in full within a reasonable amount
of time, most likely before I am gone.
Also, I don't believe any dealers will give you as
good a resell price unless you have some highly in
demand rare cels. And even then, you'd be better
off selling them on evilbay. Afterall you want to
get the most monies for each individual cel. The
only time I'd sell them to a dealer is if I was
not patient enough and I wanted trade credit.
Whenever you sell to a dealer you will loose out
in the monetary value of the cels. Which reminds
me you should also list the amount you paid for
each cel, even estimates will help the heirs to
know when people are cheating them.
Lastly, I wouldn't bother to insure the collection
unless the value exceeds 50k. If it does get is
appraised, properly insured and inventoried, added
to your will and notorized asap. |
