Actually, I've even BID FOR friends on cels I
would have wanted myself because I know how much
they want them. Sometimes even if I'm not
expressly friends with someone, I'll back off if
I see them bidding on what I know will be an
adored cel in their collection. (I've even done
this for people who have barely spoken directly
to me, but I know how they feel about a certain
scene or character from reading the posts here.)
Or at times (on Yahoo Japan), I've felt badly for
bidding so hard on something when I discover who
was the bidder behind the ID of the deputy I was
bidding against.
I usually don't tell people I do this - I just do
it. Moreover, I find that only rarely do I miss
the cels I've lost this way since if it was
something incredibly meaningful to me, I would
have gone for it anyway. Also - as someone with a
wide number of shows I collect from - this can
help me save money. Suddenly, it's as if I have a
REAL reason to say: "No, I'm going to skip out on
this one." ^_^ Instead of trying to convince
myself I really DO want those little green pieces
of paper more. ^_~
And yes, usually something better comes along. ^_~
