Yeah, that's what Yann said. But at the same time
I am seeing contradictory stuff on other sites,
and it's a bit confusing. I understand the
concept of layout and clean-up sketches, and knew
these were what these are...but I also considered
them genga as well. Kind of one of those "one
item can be more than one thing" type of
scenarios...I had never been told genga had to be
a completed sketch. Does a douga have to be a
complete item? Not necissarily, it can be a
floating mouth, so I don't understand why a genga
cannot be a floating mouth. Most of the cel
collectors I have talked to consider any
production drawing other than the douga a genga,
however I can understand that layouts are
different, since they are not neccisarily
sketches of the characters as much as planning
out the scene. Right now I'm still trying to nail
down the definition of genga taking the words
from several people, Japanese and American
collectors alike...but it seems that everyone has
such radically different definitions (I mean, the
impression of "if it's not a douga, it's a genga"
seems to be shared by many people, including a
few of the Japanese I've consulted...so it's all
kind of a thing to interpret). I suppose it
depends on how much attention to detail one
pays...
