Okay, screw the ratings. I don't want numbers of
any kinds on these. Yann's convinced me that it
might do more harm than good. I'm not even 50%
certain that this would work, and if people
starting believing in it to the point that they
would alter their prices then that would be a Bad
Thing. (even based on the most
vague "sterotypical" cel from a series)
I think if we keep the "expert feedback" stuff
though it would be still useful. I mean, there's
a lot of series that I wouldn't know what to pay.
I think that people outside of dealers are
qualified to give a fairly wide range of prices
(for States) because some people collect only one
from all the shops while one shop collects many
different series. I could be wrong in that
assumption, though.
Think of it as an about.com for cels. Lots of
qualitative information. No numbers.
Basically, I want to be able to find out a) do
cels exist? b) are they within my reasonable
price range? which seem to be the two big
questions around here. The catch-22 here is if
the index starts altering prices when all it's
supposed to be doing is observing them.
I *don't* want this to be a contest. I don't want
people going "ooh, look at this series it's got
17 gold stars for rarity". An entry on RSlug
should not be summed up with a number (even a
range); it just doesn't convey how much some
people love their shows and cels. That's not the
point. I think that's where you were going with
this post, no?
There's the question of who will determine these
things. True, some opinions will be from people
who aren't really qualified to give those
opinions. In the end, I hope (another bad word)
that some old-fashioned human communication can
go on here to determine just what to expect.
Those who submit reviews would probably be able
to answer any additional questions that a first-
time collector would have about their series. I
know that personally, I'm very talkative about my
cels even though I've only been collecting for
about a year and a half or so.
Thanks for the input.
