Personally sniping isn't that bad of a thing as 
long as the person doesn't walk up the bid. Gosh 
I hate that. I was watching an auction yesterday 
and saw somebody walk up a bid dollar by dollar. 
I appreciate those snipers who just put in a huge 
bid and are perfectly willing to follow through 
with that bid. And if it beats another 
appropriate bid, then that seems logical.

That's the reason I don't bid early. I don't want 
to have my bid walked up. Chances are, like you 
said whizbang, last minute bids actually save 
some money (unless you get caught up in the 
thrill of bidding which, in its own way, is very 
dangerous ^^;)
