I actually got the info about the VCDs from a
friend, and refrained from buying any anime VCDs
while I was in Hong Kong because I just KNEW there
was something fishy. Very fishy. You just can't
get all of Rurouni Kenshin legally for $20, even
if it does have Chinese subtitles. Though still it
bothers me to know for sure (thanks to you) that
they send NO royalties. I'll discourage the people
I know from buying them even more now! (I drive my
more 'legally liberal' anime pals nuts). I did not
know that Ever Anime and SM CDs were "legal" in
HK. Not to mention that even though I LOVED the
city and would go back in a second, there's a
number of things that are legal in Hong Kong that
aren't most places . . . ^.^
Yeah, it's probably time that the Japanese studios
tried doing a crackdown on the illegal stuff out
there. At least sending the message is very
important, even if you can't stop it.

P.S. - It is a RELIEF to know that there are anime
fans out there with genuine respect for the
creators of the shows and films after my endless
arguments with others about why it's bad to steal
others' creative property, being a writer,
filmmaker and artist mysel |
